Wipin' out the traces of the people and the places that I've been

After finding some Kris Kristofferson records (The Silver Tongued Devil & I and Who's To Bless And Who's To Blame) at Leo's in Columbia, MO, my love for Kris Kristofferson has been lit again. I watched Cisco Pike (1972) for the first time last weekend. It's a great little film about Cisco, a guy who used to be a successful musician, then started dealing pot, got in some trouble, then stopped.... then gets forced back into it by a narc...and that is where the real story starts. The soundtrack is by Kristofferson. Karen Black is beautiful. I love their Venice home. I love the early 70's fashions; big fluffy coats, bell bottoms, crazy prints, afros, long shaggy hair.
If you like Easy Rider, Two Lane Blacktop, Midnight Cowboy, Drugstore Cowboy or.... you get the picture... you should watch it!

sums up my view on life.

If your going through some shit in your life chances are somebody else has gone through the same thing before ya. And they've written about it. Some poet or philosopher has been through the same type of crap, and they've written about it. And when you find that poem or piece of writing. You think bloody hell this bastard has just summed it all up. It's kinda comforting. Know what I mean?

i'm impossible to live with

Buckley brightens up even more when I ask him what he plans to do with his six-week vacation.
Man, it's like a school holiday! I'll do sweet FA. I'll go home to New York and paint my walls and pretend I live there. I'll wake up around 11, have my scrambled eggs and coffee, and make some toast. And either I'll laze around for a few hours or write into the DAT Walkman. Or I'll clean the house. Usually when I clean the house I start at three in the morning and finish at seven. Totally backwards. I'm impossible to live with. Although I'm paranoid about the walls being so thin.
I'll write down all those things that have been bugging me for a while. I might take care of some business or read a few books. I'm reading Tropic Of Cancer right now. Any idea, anybody else's work, if it appeals to me and gives me enjoyment, that gives me inspiration. And I'll see some movies. On the bus there's very little time to read and the movies we have on board are horrible, stuff like Twins. Hardly inspiring material."

art was a religious-like calling
There was a very high value placed on the arts in my family. None of them were artists, but they loved books and movies and music. I grew up with people who believed that at its best art was a religious-like calling. I mean, my stepfather thought Bob Dylan was the greatest religious figure of the 20th century – and in a way he’s right, you know. They were also people who didn’t define success in financial terms and I think that’s had a very big influence on me.

the sea refuses no river
this is like my little window to the world and every minutes a different show.
now i may not understand it i may not even necessarily agree with it
but i tell you what i accept it and just sort of glide along
you ought to keep things on an even key, this is what i'm saying
you wanna go with the flow
the sea refuses no river
the idea is to remain in a state of constant departure
while always arriving
saves on introductions and goodbyes
the ride does not require an explanation, just occupants
thats where you guys come in
its like you come on to this planet with a crayon box
now you may get the 8 pack, you may get the 16 pack
but its all in what you do with the crayons, the colors that you're given
and don't worry about drawing within the lines or coloring outside the lines
i say color outside the lines, you know what i mean? color right off the page
don't box me in! we're in motion to the ocean
we are not land locked, i'll tell ya that

You know what drives me crazy? It's all these people talking about how great technology is, and how it saves all this time. But, what good is saved time, if nobody uses it? If it just turns into more busy work. You never hear somebody say, "With the time I've saved by using my word processor, I'm gonna go to a Zen monastery and hang out". I mean, you never hear that.

I know what you mean about wishing somebody wasn't there, though. It's just usually it's myself that I wish I could get away from. Seriously, think about this. I have never been anywhere that I haven't been. I've never had a kiss when I wasn't one of the kissers. Y'know, I've never, um, gone to the movies, when I wasn't there in the audience. I've never been out bowling, if I wasn't there, y'know making some stupid joke. I think that's why so many people hate themselves. Seriously, it's just they are sick to death of being around themselves.
Let's say that you and I were together all the time, then you'd start to hate a lot of my mannerisms. The way every time we would have people over, uh, I'd be insecure, and I'd get a little too drunk. Or, uh, the way I'd tell the same stupid pseudo-intellectual story again, and again. Y'see, I've heard all those stories. So of course I'm sick of myself. But being with you, uh, it's made me feel like I'm somebody else.
When you talked earlier about after a few years how a couple would begin to hate each other by anticipating their reactions or getting tired of their mannerisms-I think it would be the opposite for me. I think I can really fall in love when I know everything about someone-the way he's going to part his hair, which shirt he's going to wear that day, knowing the exact story he'd tell in a given situation. I'm sure that's when I know I'm really in love.
Why is it, that a dog, sleeping in the sun, is so beautiful, y'know, it is, it’s beautiful, but a guy, standing at a bank machine, trying to take some money out, looks like a complete moron?
jesse
I always feel this pressure of being a strong and independent icon of womanhood, and without making it look my whole life is revolving around some guy. But loving someone, and being loved means so much to me. We always make fun of it and stuff. But isn't everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?

reality vs....imaginary
it's so easy for me to take a fact or an observation and think about it, then all of a sudden i have the whole history of it made up in my head and i believe it. i forget that things exist outside of my imagination. and when the reality is made clear to me it hits me like tornado and i get confused and probably more upset than any sane person would.
sometimes i think it's okay though, to be a little weird. lots of great people who have created many great thing were a little weird. after watching Little Ashes, (with robert pattinson as salvador dali) i knew that dali was a little crazy, but was an amazing artist. i just wish i actually put that energy to something tangible instead of just living a life where i can't tell reality from dreams.
i've been listening to Audioslave, which i think is kinda funny because they're not the type of band i normally listen to. its the cd that came out when i was in middle school. the one with "Like a Stone" and i remember being in gym class in the 7th grade and we had a TV and it played music videos and this came on everyday. but when i listen to it now, its completely different song. funny how with time, the same thing can be so different.
there's this lyrics from track 8 "i am not you're rolling wheels/i am the highway/i am not your carpet ride/ i am the sky". i really like it.
