Grace Woodroofe
I remember reading an article about her in January 2008. Grace Woodroofe. She went to school with Heath Ledger's half sister Ashleigh who sent Heath Grace's music.... and then he flew her out to LA, introduced her to Ben Harper... and so on. It's a fairy tale. And then of course Heath Ledger died... Now her album is finally being released. You really should read this article from theaustralian.com.au/
One of the songs titled H... I think you know why, is heartbreakingly beautiful. One of those songs you listen to with your eyes closed, and builds and unregrettable saddness in you. I was almost too effected by Heath Ledger's death. I have a way of attaching myself to people I don't even know (Jeff Buckley...) I remember I went to New York City for the first time in November 2007, and you should have seen me. Walking through Chinatown, walking through Brooklyn, on the subways, just trying to find Heath Ledger. Then a week after I got home there were articles online of him riding the subways with Matilda looking like a homeless man thanksgiving week! Haha, why couldn't I have seen him! The week before he died I had started a portrait of him and his daughter, and I haven't been able to finish it. It's safe to say I'm a dramatic person... I went to London for my senior trip the summer after he died and I had a list of places I knew he had been filming The Imaginirium of Doctor Parnassus. And then when I was lucky enough to go back to NYC in 2009, I stopped by the Soho apartment he had died in, and the Boerum Hill home he lived in with Michelle and Matilda... okay now I have sufficiently convinced anyone who reads this that I'm thoroughly obsessed with the man, but I guess only to show how I relate to this song. Aren't songs better when you know either what created them, or what makes them real to you? It's not like I wrote it with the dilusional fabrication of knowing him. But by a girl, my age, with a beautiful talent, who knew and lost an unreplaceble friend.
My dad wrote 4 words on a tiny piece of paper,
these are the stages you'll go through. He said
shock, anger, deep denying sadness,
in time acceptance will come too.
Oh, I wish I could fast-forward time, for that matter rewind.
I know you said time was blind,
now you are in a place that only exists in my mind.
I have this image of you leaning out the window,
your lungs encapsulating smoke,
but I would give everything to smell your cigarette's burning,
you were always so impassive when you spoke.
I feel you with me all the time,
your guiding hands lead mine,
but I miss the stories that you'd share,
and the little garments that you always used to wear.
I am wearing nothing but your love,
and I can honestly say
that I think about you everyday.
I have this image of you leaning out the window,
your lungs encapsulating smoke,
but I would give everything to smell your cigarette's burning,
you were always so impassive when you spoke.
Your house is empty, shelves are bare,
your presence felt, but you're not there.
That's where you sit, I mean where you sat,
I am still adjusting to getting used to that.
You won't show up at my door.
Wherever you are I hope you find
what you were searching for.

sums up my view on life.

If your going through some shit in your life chances are somebody else has gone through the same thing before ya. And they've written about it. Some poet or philosopher has been through the same type of crap, and they've written about it. And when you find that poem or piece of writing. You think bloody hell this bastard has just summed it all up. It's kinda comforting. Know what I mean?

his name was james byron dean
I've been reading and watching alot of things on James Dean lately. I really like this film by one of Jimmy's best friends. There are so many great parts but my favorite is The Little Prince scene (starts at 42:50). His temperament and personality reminds of what I think Jeff Buckley might have been like too.
insanely creative and divinely talented....and taken too soon.

and never was there an answer, there an answer Not without listening, without seeing
I'm sure we all get very high faluten ideas about how much it's changed the world. Certainly, in early 60s. I don't know what you wanna describe as Rock 'n' Roll, but I certainly thought that 60s stuff, Bob Dylan and the Beatles, changed the world a little bit. But the effect seems to have retreated. I think it's harder than we think to change the world. These things go in cycles. It doesn't seem to have done an awful lot of good, does it? You know, all the talk of racial harmony and equality in the world...we haven't got a long way since the 60s.

love at first sight isn't really love, because you can't love someone until you know them
What did I learn from my first love experience? I learned that I was an idiot.
Those kind of first experiences, where men and- you know, people kinda fall in love is that's where you find out a lot about yourself. I think we kinda use each other in a way, a healthy way.
whether the relationships work out or not. You find out so much about your inner life, that non-romantic friendships don't ever ask of you.
...really falling in love gets down to the essence of you touches some kind of ... something deep within you that only previously your parents had touched.

It's just a fad, part of the teen, teenage angst brigade
I'm scared that if I really like someone it won't happen, so I cut it short. A lot of the time it just feels like it's not real love. We've got girls screaming and stuff, girls saying they love us, but I think they're in love with the idea of being in love with someone onstage or in love with people they see in magazines or on television. That's not real - it's totally false.

i think im gonna love you for a long long time

Love will abide, take things in stride
Sounds like good advice but there's no one at my side
And time washes clean love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me but I don't know what it means.
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time
Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me when you never let me near
And I never drew one response from you
All the while you fell all over girls you never knew
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me for a long long time
Wait for the day
You'll go away
Knowing that you warned me of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory of a love that never was
Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind
and I think I'm gonna miss you for a long long time
Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time.

jeff buckley on mojo pin
"This is a song about obsession. Sometimes if somebody you feel you need… the whole universe tells you, you have to have her, you start watching her TV-shows all night, you start buying her the things she needs, you start drinking her drinks, you start smoking her bad cigarettes, you start picking up her nuances in her voice, you sleep in safe sometimes the least dangerous thing… this is called Mojo Pin."
my favorite performance of this song

“With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue You’re too much”
Mick had told me how he lusted after her. Eric almost killed himself over her. Woody, who had had an affair with her, claimed she was the ultimate girl. I saw her in A Hard Day’s Night when I was eleven, and I thought she was the ultimate rock star’s girlfriend. And here I was, finally sitting opposite her, and I realized that she was just a normal woman - one who had very large breasts. That was another thing that was very shocking. I was thinking, Pattie Boyd has these really large tits, but she has this tiny little body. Then I thought, That’s the key - the Barbie Doll body

why do you treat me like you do?
SoKo » Donovan from The Voice Project on Vimeo.
Hey, hey, hey, why do you treat me like you do,
Hey, hey, hey, why do you treat me like you do?
There's just as many geese and they're flyin' down South
As there are lies just pouring out of your mouth.
Hey, hey, hey, why do you treat me like you do?
You say that you're young, boy, I guess that's your big excuse
But sometimes I get so low down I wanna shout out, What's the use?!
When you've been a lovin' someone else you don't try to hide
You take me for a fool then you take me for a ride.
Hey, hey, hey, why do you treat me like you do ?
Ah, you seen my face, boy, with the tears all down my mouth.
You came up, you held my hand, boy, you don't know what it's all about.
I seen you goin' out, there was nothin' I could say,
I hung around your house till the very break of day,
Then you came a-laughing down the bright highway.
Now, why do you treat me like you do ?
My mornings, they're all empty now, my evenings, they're just the same,
Now maybe I been thinkin' wrong about you, boy, and
you ain't really the one to blame.
Keep on lovin' someone else, now don't you try to hide,
You can take me for a fool if it keeps you satisfied,
'Cause I ain't gonna be the one to ask the reason
Why do you treat me like you do.

if you'd just entertain the thought
the studio version is my favorite, but here is a live performance of a great song.
Treat me right and don't you let me down
You brush me off and you run around
I have tried to get through to you
But love and leave is all you do
Treat me right and don't you do me wrong
Play for keeps don't just play along
You say you love me but you don't say it right
I'm at the end of a tunnel but there ain't no light
Oh but like so many done before you always leave me wanting more and as you walk right out the door my heart falls to the floor and I say
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to treat me right
All the time, squeeze me like a key lime
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to quit the fight and fall into the night
Treat me right every single day
Stick around and don't you run away
I will give you all the love I got
If you'd just entertain the thought
Oh but like so many done before you always leave me wanting more and as you walk right out the door my heart falls to the floor and I say
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to treat me right
All the time, squeeze me like a key lime
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to quit the fight and fall into the night
Please love, don't you do me like you've done before,
Please love can we stop this keeping score,
Please love let me in don't lock this door,
Give me all the love that I know you can afford
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to treat me right
All the time, squeeze me like a key lime
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to quit the fight and fall into the night
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to treat me right
All the time, squeeze me like a key lime
C'mon, C'mon, C'mon you've got to quit the fight and fall into the night
